The wristwatch is out of coal, a bracelet by salmon leather and prussian horsehair.
I wanted to expose how someone can justify his own luxury without rejection. Perhaps through luxury with value or deeper meaning? Thus, I asked myself if I can create a product that gives a ”justification history“ with the purchase. Wristwatches, especially among men, send a clear signal to others. The clock‘s function provides the justification and can be the ostensible reason he is buying the watch. In order to buy this clock, the customer has to pay more than the fixed price. On the first day after completion of the purchase agreement, the clock starts to run. For every minute that it ticks, a cent of the previously- defined „extra“ money is invested – in a good thing. When all of the money has been used up, the clock stops and can no longer be used. The chronograph will display, directly under the movement, the state of the donation and thus the time that remains until the clock stops.
This is a part of my diploma thesis 2012 in cooperation with Porsche Design. For this work I also got the IKEA scholarship for very eligible Projects.
